Greggs is launching a vegan version of its popular steak bake in 1,300 of its UK stores today.
The bakery chain says its Vegan Steak Bake (£1.55) has been 'created to mirror some of the original Steak Bake's classic features, including 96 layers of light and crisp puff pastry, but instead is made with Quorn pieces, diced onions, and a gravy filling'.
The new pastry follows the launch of its vegan sausage roll last January, which won critical acclaim and went on to become one of Greggs' fastest selling products of the last six years.
'Working tirelessly'
"Our Vegan Sausage Roll launch was a huge success and we've been working tirelessly to expand our vegan-friendly offering and provide more delicious savory food on-the-go options for people looking to reduce their meat intake," Roger Whiteside, chief executive at Greggs, said: "
"The launch of our Vegan Steak Bake is another key milestone on our journey to become our customers' favorite for food-on-the-go. We look forward to hearing the feedback."
The Greggs Vegan Steak Bake launches in 1,300 shops today and will hit a further 700 shops on January 16.
